The misconception about Christianity
“Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple. For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? lest, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish’…So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple.”-Luke 14:27-33
These are difficult words to accept but they came straight from the mouth of Jesus. The misconception about Christianity is that it is a feel-good walk with no struggles, but Jesus stated that following Him would cost us…everything. This is why Jesus warns those who choose to follow Him that they should “count the cost” and see if they are truly willing to do what it takes to follow Him so that they don’t give up along the way and turn back. Following Jesus also means following His lifestyle and being willing to sacrifice your life (way of living) for Him, just as He was willing to give up His life for you. So, have you counted the cost?
